Staying Safe: Paper Shredders Can Be Dangerous to Children

Many people own paper shredders to protect their identities, but if you have one, keep in mind there's something else you need to protect. Here is ...
Kids and little fingers, we have the demonstrations to help your family to stay safe.
Some home shredders are strong enough to pull in a pencil, and flimsy enough to let it pass through the plastic entry guard. And that's about what happened to the Mouritsens' little girl's hand.
(Matthew Mouritsen, Dad:)
"My five-year old daughter starts yelling, she's stuck, she's stuck. And I ran in, and sure enough, she was wedged in, her three fingers were wedged in. I unplugged it and tried to pull, but there was no pulling."
(Aimee Mouritsen, Mom:)
"She was obviously in a lot of pain and was crying. I just took her face in my hands and we just started to talk."
... ... Since then, these parents have met dozens of families who've been through the same ordeal. They want the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall some home shredders. But in the meantime, ... ... put away your shredders when you're not using them and let adults only use them.
